in pink

SpcI have this idea that I wear black all the time, and it's true I do wear a lot of black. Last year I tried to go a whole year without purchasing or making a black item of clothing. And it was hard. Women in inner city Melbourne often wear a lot of black or other dark colours, particularly those that came of age in the eighties. I remember my mother taking me clothes shopping and trying in vain to get me to wear another colour. It's funny, but these days I sometimes wear quite a bit of pink.

In this photo I'm wearing an old t-shirt from Best and Less. Nothing special, just super comfy. And very pink. It kind of fits in with the decor of this room which was an extraordinary mix of cutsie pictures, weird bedspreads and gruesome Mary Leunig cartoons. In a house full of very umm, quirky decor. I packed in a hurry on Saturday morning after the house auctions (we didn't get either of the houses but I'm OK with that, our house will turn up at the right time). My destination, a house in the country for a craft weekend with some very special ladybloggers and crafty women. During which I made half a pin cushion and took over 200 photos. But as others have said, the real prize and delight was the company of fabulous women. It was a shame not to be able to go for the whole weekend, but going on Saturday meant I was able to attend another bloggy gathering of another lot of fabulous women on the Thursday night. Hugely fun!  I feel so lucky to be part of this wonderful bloggy community. Tickled pink, you might say!

See what others are wearing here.

    funny
    so far away,

  3. Oh! Your weekend sounds fun...
(the bloggy part, I mean. ) Except if I came I'd be the odd one out, because I'd be the only one knitting.... (sigh).
I'm going to learn how to quilt over the summer holidays.... I'll vow it like Scarlett O'Hara did in 'Gone with the Wind'... "As God is my witness, I'll learn to quilt over the holidays!!"
Now I have to do it. (I like wearing pink too.)

  5. I just got a bag in almost the same pattern as this wallpaper. Very pink:)
I tagged you for a meme - 7 random things about you. Hope you'll take part:)

  6. As above - there used to be a lot of black in my wardrobe but there's more and more pink. I love pink but used to feel kind of stupid wearing it in a professional context. Now, I quite enjooy the dissonance of it (but mostly just like the colour). Black, well black used to be my 'sophisticated' colour before realising that it's just a canvas to throw into relief baby spit, food, and general skankiness. Pink is so much more forgiving of being a mother of two little kiddies.

  7. Of course you wear black darling, this is Melbourne. My friend Nell has a t-shirt that reads I'm only wearing black until they invent something darker. I love to spruce up my blacks with rainbow colours, especially purple.

  8. I must be the only Melb girl ( ex inner city too ! ) that owns barely any black. It just isn't me, although I admire others in it.
Pink suits you. You can Barbie it up with me, since I only just discovered I own more of it than I thought ( previously, I was known as the Blue Chambray Shirt Girl ;)
Bummer about the auctions - I was looking forward to your flickr pics rundown actually .. AND hoping for a win !

  9. Because I mainly shop op shop these days, the blacks there are usually slightly grey, so I've been venturing into bright colours more and more. Much more flattering I say! You do look pretty in pink and I adore that wallpaper. (What is it about wallpaper lately? Yesterday I wandered into a furnishings shop and fondled the wallpaper samples for ages).

  10. I like that you included a snippet of my pillowcase in the corner with its pink roses!
(I hope you set frogdancer straight about knitting and being the odd one out ... and pointed her to the post at Clementine's Shoes showing so many of us knitting).

  11. I have always had some black but am in fact wearing more and more of it.
In accordance with how much bigger I am than in the eighties. And you know. How I think it disguises that.

  12. Gosh, you're one beautiful woman! And pink does become you. Hmmm, I still gravitate towards black, but the blues/greens/purples, when I find them, are making progress.

  14. This really is all so new to me and I am not entirely comfortable feeling like a voyer, but at the same time your stories have been wonderful to read. So i am little nervous even trying to comment. New to blog world , new to Melbourne ( from Perth WA ) and wanting to be new to digital photography.
So firstly thank you for your cyber offerings. Common denominators being op shops , sewing, cooking, children etc.
I wanted to ask if you have a suggestion for a digital camera that I can carry around with me that is capable of landscape/closeup and at home shots. I won't be able to afford a slr. Something that charges up easily and has a view finder. I assume the shutter delay issue with digitals isn't so bad anymore. Anyway I hope this isn't imposing too much... and all the best with the house hunt.

  15. That wallpaper rocks. You totally matched that room. What fun.
If I can chime in on newgirls' question, I'd suggest anything made by Canon that you can afford really. I've had a little Powershot for 5 years and it's still going. My husband has something middle of the road and I've got a pro SLR body, too.

  16. Something odd is going on because my Google feeder just told me there were 135 new posts from you - but they were all November posts from 2006. I don't know if there is any evidence of this from your end?

  18. I think wearing black is the equivalent of eating mashed potatoes - it just feels so comfortable. Sometimes I get in a rut but then I'll pull something hot pink or lime green from my closet and really be happy about it.
